This article of these amazing photos was published yesterday on Buzzfeed by Jack Shepherd.

Regardless about how you stand on certain political and social elements that some of these pictures touch upon, you have to admit that it's hard not to be moved by them.

17-year-old Meghan Vogel was in last place in the 3,200-meter run when she caught up to competitor Arden McMath, whose body was giving out. Instead of running past her to avoid the last-place finish, Vogel put McMath's arm around her shoulders, carried her 30 meters, and then pushed her over the finish line before crossing it.

Sue Drummond was walking her beloved Shih Tzu, Bibi, on a pier in Melbourne, when a fierce gust of wind picked him up and hurled him into the rough waters of the bay. A passerby, Raden Soemawinata, who happened to be on the pier that day to scatter his grandmother's ashes, wasted no time in stripping down and diving into the bay to rescue the animal.

Photo Friday: Hawaii Lantern Floating Ceremony

This past Memorial Day, Hawaii held its 14th annual lantern floating ceremony.  Over 40,000 people came together at Magic Island to light lanterns with special messages to loved ones who have passed away and float them off to sea.

Photo Friday: Ring of Fire Eclipse

This past Sunday, May 20, 2012, the earth was treated to a rare sight - an annular solar eclipse, meaning the sun is visible as a ring when the moon passes in front of it.  Eclipses like this are rare and only happen when the moon's orbit is at its furthest point from the earth and closer to the sun.

Here are some photos from that cosmically cool event.

Photo Friday: Lanikai Beach

I've been in the cold and rainy Midwest for the past couple weeks.  As much as I love being here, I am definitely missing Hawaii something fierce.  Just a few more days and I get to come home to this...

Haleakala's Moonbow

This wickedly magical photo is a "moonbow," a lunar rainbow created as moonlight passes through fog. It was taken at Haleakala, Maui and published on National Geographic's website.  The bright, twinkling "star" is actually Mars, and it was actually at its closest point to Earth in 2010.

Photo Friday: Van Gogh to Rothko in 30 Seconds

Today's Photo Friday is a little bit different.
It's actually not just one image, but a thousand images of some of the world's greatest works of art.
It's fascinating how images one right after the other for 30-seconds tells a pretty epic story.

See more about the project here.

Photo Friday: Brilliant Blue Butterflies

Years ago, I did a 23-day Outward Bound Course in Costa Rica.  One of the most magical parts of that trip was when we stumbled upon a brilliant blue wall.  As we got closer, we realized it was hundreds of butterflies.  It was definitely one of those overwhelmingly inspiring moments that has always stuck with me.
